Business Liability Insurance
In Spain

One mistake, one complaint, one accident and your business is legally exposed.

A broken floor tile in your office. A miscalculation in client work.

A small water leak that damages the neighbour’s shop.

Without liability insurance, you or your company pay the full cost, including claims, repairs and legal fees.

In Spain, civil liability insurance isn’t just smart. It’s often required.

What Business Liability Insurance Covers

In business, even small incidents can lead to serious claims. If someone is injured, property is damaged, or a client suffers a loss, responsibility often falls on the business named on the invoice. Business liability insurance protects you when things go wrong.

This cover typically includes:

  • Property damage caused during your work
  • Injuries to third parties on-site or at project locations
  • Claims from clients, suppliers, or the public
  • Legal defence and court costs

Key Benefits

Frequently Asked Questions

Is liability insurance mandatory in my sector?

Not always by law — but in many cases, you simply won’t be able to operate without it.

In construction and technical trades, liability insurance is required to access worksites or register as a contractor. In hospitality, it’s often demanded by landlords, health inspectors or local authorities. Shops and retail businesses typically need it to sign lease agreements. And if you rent out property, you’re expected to have cover in place in case of damage to tenants or neighbours.

Even for advisors, consultants and accountants, liability insurance isn’t legally required — but it often is by your clients. Many tenders and contracts include it as a condition.

Freelancers and small business owners without staff aren’t exempt either. If your work involves physical space, advice or third parties, a single claim can have serious financial consequences.

What does it cover?

Liability insurance protects your business against damage or injury caused to others during your work.
This includes:

    • Physical injury on your premises or job site

    • Damage to client property

    • Claims based on mistakes, delays or omissions

    • Legal defence and court costs

Does it cover damage caused by subcontractors?

In many cases: yes — but only if they’re declared.
If you use subcontractors, we’ll make sure your policy is set up correctly to include them or advise you to require their own coverage.

Does this also cover professional mistakes?

Yes — if the policy includes professional liability (RC profesional).
This is crucial for consultants, accountants, advisors and technical professionals.
General liability (RC general) doesn’t cover bad advice or calculation errors.

I already have a policy. Can you check if it’s enough?

Yes. Many businesses think they’re covered — until something happens and it turns out the policy excludes the key risk.
We’ll review your current insurance, explain what’s missing (if anything), and fix it if needed.

I’m self-employed. Do I really need this?

If your work involves clients, physical spaces, tools or advice — yes.
One small mistake or claim can put personal assets at risk.
Even if it’s not legally required, it’s often required by contractby a landlord, or to join a professional association.

Does this replace my contents or property insurance?

No.
Liability insurance covers damage to others — not damage to your own equipment, stock or space.
We can help combine liability with contents or building insurance if needed.

How much does it cost?

That depends on:

  • Your activity

  • Turnover

  • Business structure (freelance or company)

  • Claims history

  • Type of coverage (general / professional / combined)

As a rough guide:

  • Basic liability starts from €150–250 per year

  • More complex sectors or professional liability from €300–800+ per year

We will always give a clear quote.

Can I pay monthly?

Yes, most insurers offer monthly or quarterly payments.

Can I cancel or adjust the policy during the year?

Policies usually run for 12 months. Cancellation is possible up to 30 days before renewal.
If your activity or structure changes during the year, we’ll help adjust the cover accordingly.
